Fame, Celebrity and Glory

Fame to the ambitious is like salt water to the thirsty. The more they get, the more they want. Madonna, who at one stage was probably the most famous woman on the planet, said, ‘I won’t be happy until I am as famous as God.’

பின்னிட்டு பார்க்க வேண்டாம்

அதற்கு இயேசு: கலப்பையின்மேல் தன் கையை வைத்துப் பின்னிட்டுப்பார்க்கிற எவனும் தேவனுடைய ராஜ்யத்துக்குத் தகுதியுள்ளவன் அல்ல என்றார். - (லூக்கா 9:62).

அமெரிக்க தேசத்திலே ஆத்தும பாரமுள்ள சபையொன்றிலிருந்து ஆப்பிரிக்காவிற்கு ஒருவர் மிஷனெரியாக அனுப்பப்பட்டார். அநேக நாட்கள் பயணத்திற்குப் பின் ஆப்பிரிக்க எல்லைப்பகுதியை அடைந்தார். அங்கிருந்து ஒரு துடுப்பு படகு மூலம் மக்கள் வாழும் பகுதியை நோக்கிச் சென்றார். மாலை மயங்கும் அந்நேரத்திலே மக்கள் இடும் ஆரவாரங்களை கேட்ட அவர், காரணமறிய துடுப்பை ஆர்வமாகப் போட்டு காதை கூர்மையாக்கினார். அவர் ஏற்கனவே கேள்விப்பட்டிருந்தபடி, அம்மக்கள் மனிதர்களை சமைத்து சாப்பிட்டுக் கொண்டிருந்தனர். அவருடைய உள்ளத்தில் பயம் ஏற்பட ஆரம்பித்தது.

நாம் பலவேளைகளில் எங்களுடைய விண்ணப்பங்களுக்கு எல்லாம் தேவன் சீக்கிறமாக பதில கொடுக்க வேண்டும் என்று எதிர்பார்ப்பதோடு, எங்களுடைய தேவைகள் சந்திக்கப்படுவதற்கு மாத்திரமே அவரை தேடுகிறவர்களாயக இருக்கின்றோம். நாம் ஒரு போதும் இரண்டு எஜமான்களை சேவிக்கவே முடியாது. உலகத்தை சேவிக்கிறதாக இருந்தால், தேவனை நமது வேலைக்காரனைப் போலவே அவரை நடத்துகிறவர்களாய் இருப்போம். கர்த்தாவே நான் என்ன செய்ய வேண்டும் என் று ஜெபிப்பதற்குப் பதிலாக, எனக்கு இதை செய்யும் அல்லது அதை செய்யும் என்று கட்டளை கொடுக்கிறவர்களாய் மட்டும் காணப்படுவேம். நாம் கர்த்தருக்கு எப்படி செவிகொடுக்கிறோம் என்பதில் தான், கர்த்தர் நமக்கு செவிகொடுப்பது தங்கியிருக்கிறது.

Deliver Us from Distractions

“I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.” 

2 CORINTHIANS 11:3

I have said many times that we do not need more of the Lord, since we are already complete in Christ – we just need less of everything else. There are many things that spoil, hinder, distract, and lead us away from the simplicity of an abiding relationship with Jesus. Many of them are spiritual and religious. The spirit of Antichrist is not necessarily seen in something that is obviously satanic or demonic. Instead, the spirit of Antichrist is revealed in anything that seeks to spoil us by taking our eyes off of Christ – it is anti-Christ, against Christ, antithetical to the great Purpose of God.

How easy it is for us to become distracted into something less than Christ! Are you centered on Christ? Is Jesus your obsession? Is He your focus? Or have you set your sights on something beneath Him?

When Things Seem Impossible

Don’t ask, “What am I going to do?” Rather, in a spirit of faith, simply say, “Lord, what are You going to do?”

Even Christ’s disciples struggled with doubt and fear in times of trouble or uncertainty. Though they walked closely with the Savior, they were still prone to casting their focus in the wrong direction.

Just before He was about to perform the miracle of feeding the 5,000, Jesus tested Philip by asking him where to buy bread for the crowd. The disciple’s response revealed that he was thinking of solving the dilemma through man’s ideas and worldly means. At the same time, Andrew was busy surveying the multitude to determine how he would approach the situation. Upon finding a young boy with five loaves and two fish, he demonstrated his own limited mindset by asking, “What are these for so many people?” (John 6:9).

As was true for all of His miracles, Jesus performed this amazing feat of compassion and provision to prove who He was and always would be. And the same Christ who fed 5,000 with five loaves and two fish will act on our behalf when situations seem impossible.

In difficult times, when it seems all hope is lost, try not to assess your circumstances from a worldly perspective. Don’t ask, “What am I going to do?” Rather, in a spirit of faith, simply say, “Lord, what are You going to do?” Remember, He tells us to cast all of our cares upon Him because He cares for us (1 Pet. 5:7).

Avoid attempting to engineer your circumstances. The virtues of patience, faith, and waiting upon the Lord will help you to know God’s grace and to experience His love and miraculous touch in your life.
